Los Baños, Laguna - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) will conduct the ENVIOTECH Forum: Promoting biotechnologies for a healthier environment on November 25, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM via Zoom and Facebook Live.
ENVIOTECH Forum is the culminating activity of the Under 20 Minutes series which aims to highlight the contributions of biotechnology in addressing environmental issues in the country. The eight biotechnologies discussed in the video series are biodiversity, genetic diversity, clonal propagation of indigenous forest trees, tissue culture of bamboo, Mindanao tree seed center, Hi-Q VAM 1, phytoremediation, and microplastics.
Various ERDB experts will serve as resource persons for the activity. Dr Simplicia Pasicolan, Chief of Urban Ecosystems Research Division, will talk about Biotechnologies for Biodiversity Conservation; Dr. Malou Q. Moreno, OIC Chief of Coastal and Freshwater Ecosystems Division, will discuss Biotechnologies for Cleaner Coastal and Freshwater Ecosystems; For. Florita Siapno, OIC Chief of Forest Ecosystems Research Division, will cover Biotechnologies for Forest Protection, and Dr. Henry A. Adornado, Director of ERDB, will elaborate the Research and Development directions on biotechnologies of the institution.
ENVIOTECH Forum is part of the celebration of the 16th National Biotechnology Week which is also chaired by DENR. NBW has been annually celebrated every last week of November through Presidential Proclamation 1414 since 2004. In compliance with the safety protocols set under the new normal, all activities related to the celebration of NBW will be conducted online.
ERDB is the principal research and development arm of DENR. Its R &D and extension activities are focused on the five major ecosystems of the Philippines which include forests, upland farms, grassland and degraded areas, coastal zone and freshwater, and urban areas. Allysa Marie C. Federio, TTD
